Well...wow.

"How was your concert, daddy?" my son said, by way of "Good morning."

How, indeed? It was marvelous, boyo, thank you for asking. The Stone Bridge Coffee House was packed, with a dozen more people on chairs outside on the sidewalk listening in - we came to call that group The Lions Club, after the Hope Day School Lions, the high school that I and most of them attended. They were the rowdy bunch, them.  Several folks up from Oklahoma, Bruce, Susi, Chester, Shannyn (sp?), Jenny. Many folks in the shop I've come to think of as "regulars", people I do not know but whose faces I recognize.

Surrounded by fans, friends and Chosen Family, it was, at least from my perspective, a terrific show. I added two new songs, "The Athens Queen", by Stan Rogers; and "You Can Close Your Eyes", by James Taylor. Love, love, LOVE that song.

I'm scheduled to play again this Friday, 7:00pm - 9:00pm, with a jam session to follow: Frank, you're welcome to sit in if you don't mind the thirty hour drive :)

Of course, I'm still scheduled for December 5; January 9, 2010; and February 6, 2010. There's probably an extra November date in there, too, the 20th, but that's kind of up in the air.

Thank you to every one who came to hear me. You made the evening for me.

It was wonderful to *finally* get to hear you play!

It was just awesome! As Chet said later in the evening, "this was worth the whole weekend!" Yep, it was.

I cannot express in words the Seeing of you. My heart bumped so hard against my tear ducts that it wasn't until the trip back to the hotel where all my words came spilling out of me and the absolute joy was there for me to hold.

You put Shannon in awe of the power of what true family can be. She must have said two or three times how much your hug meant to her.

Thank you, Bill, for the songs, for the caring, for the love, for the book. Just thank you and Missy for being who and what you are.

Purely magical, indeed.

I still haven't found the words, but when it comes to things that truly matter to me I usually don't. Prose is easy: genuine feelings aren't. I'll process the night for a week and come up with something after several days wholly inadequate to the experience.

My friend, I hope the time is not long when we have the opportunity to do this again.

One of these days, you're going to be surprised when I *do* show up.

Sadly, I'm taping a TV show for the local cable channel on Saturday afternoon - they tape an hour of straight music (and chatter if you do that sort of thing) from various local musicians and broadcast them during the holidays... both scheduled and as filler.

That sounds like fun. There's been a similar show announced here in the KC area, for filmmakers and local happenings. I might just invite the producer to a concert.

When you do walk in, bring a defibrillator with you.
