And, finally back at work.

I can think of a lot of reasons for a three day weekend that I would enjoy. Sickness in the family and a dead cat are two reasons that don't make the list. Yesterday I was, as is easily imagined, way off my game and got little to no work done for my day job. You would be justified in saying, as Michelle does frequently, that a day off won't hurt anyone, but I find the routine and the drudgery comforting. While the environment and demands frequently frustrate me, the work I do is often relaxing.

There was none of that to be had yesterday, though, for technical as well as emotional reasons. While my primary PC is busy rendering 2-1/2 hours of footage for a video project for church*, I'm on my Linux box working on day-job stuff. Besides being a somewhat slower and geriatric machine, all of my tools are for Windows: I'm in an unfamiliar and not-nearly-as-versatile editor coping with Firefox on a system written exclusively for IE. The goal of course is to go browser-agnostic with the system, but because I'm the only one who cares about that, I have to fit the upgrades in between paying jobs. It's slow work.
On a lighter note:

I am feeling better, though I'm still "off my feed," as we say back home. I eat to feed the machine, but food all goes down heavy and hot. On the bright side, I've lost four pounds in four days. Michelle is still recovering and is now coping with a cluster migraine. Could be a tension headache, too, but when your head hurts that bad it hardly matters why. The kids are in the possession of their grandmother today, so Michelle gets to rest.

Today would have been a good day to work from home.

I've got a proposal in on a promotional video. It won't net me much except experience and a couple-hundred dollars, but that's okay. I can use both.

* at a rate of 4 hours rendering per half-hour of real-time. Say it with me: f-f-f-u-u-u-c-c-c-k-k-k.
