Mother's Day, 2007
As there isn't a whole lot going on today that officially concerns ME, being a guy and all, I thought I'd post an observation.
Some of you know, most of you don't, that I won't be at White Hart this year. We have a memorial service to attend in Tennessee, for an aunt that died last Autumn (long story, not my aunt), and the trip down, around, and back will take a large chunk out of what time I might have spent there. Rather than commit to one weekend, I decided that it would be better to forego participation. I will miss the event, both for the faire and for the time to Just Be Bill for a couple days a week.
Still, as the weather heats up, I'm beginning to wonder if last year might not have been my last performance at an outdoor event. Second weekend I nearly went down with the heat, something that's not happened to me since 1990 (though I suspect that at the time I was suffering flu rather than heat stroke). Not so, last year. I paced myself, drank water by the gallon, my duties were no more complicated than to be arm candy for one of the ladies of the court (that I WILL miss), and the heat still got to me.
This year, I cannot tolerate the sun, even half dressed as is my wont during the summer months. The light and heat is simply too much. In a costume? No, don't think so.
I am not as melancholy as this post sounds, btw. Michelle and I are (probably) going to dinner later, just us, and I'm looking forward to the time away from the kids for a good meal.
