A very busy weekend
But quite worth it.
Last fall, just before it really got cold, I removed the window air conditioner from the family room and walled up that space - it was always a place where cold air would just pour in and make that room very hard to heat. I didn't have enough siding and we didn't have the ready funds to purchase it before it got too cold to finish the job. So, the interior was finished and weather-tight, but the exterior had a rectangular place covered with tarpaper. Not attractive, but it served.
This weekend, siding in hand, I finished that wall. The one downside is that it's twelve feet off the ground, and I was working alone with one ladder.
Climb up; pound in a nail; climb down; move the ladder over a foot or two. Repeat. A dozen boards, a dozen nails each. Like the Stairmaster From Hell.
I made a bracket to hang one end of the siding from (shortest piece: five feet; longest: nearly nine) while I set the first nail which made the job easier, but it was still a real ass-kicking...I almost feel like I was in a car accident, with all the little kinks and sore places. My legs are still wobbly from all the upping and downing, but it's done.
Three more walls to go, all much closer to the ground. I'll still be on the ladder, but I learned some good lessons on this project that I can apply.
After finishing the siding, we went out to a new Chinese buffet in Blue Springs called Jinn's. If you're in the area and don't mind the drive, the food is really good even for a buffet.
Then, home to watch Chicken Little. It's non-stop, one sight-gag after another, with lots of pop-culture references (though, after while, almost too many). It's a damn funny movie: the previews don't do it justice. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a piece of advice: don't take your eyes off the screen, there's just that much going on.
The bit where the juvenile alien blows his "nose" had me laughing hard enough I scared my daughter. This is one we'll be adding to the collection.
