Scent of a Woman

I'd walked into our bedroom, where Michelle lay curled on the bed watching a PBS documentary on National Parks. She's been coughing quite a lot and I'd earlier rubbed Vicks on her chest.

There was a candle burning on the dresser. I sniffed, then inhaled deeply.

"Ahhhh," I swooned, "Vicks and Autumn spices. This must be what heaven smells like."
