Best weekend I've had in a while
With the tights business quiet for the time being and work around the house to be done, we spent the better part of our weekend outdoors. I'm sunburned, but amazingly enough not very sore. Two projects for the weekend: completed one and made excellent progress on the other. We've an area next to our porch where nothing will grow but anemic wild strawberries, crabgrass and shrubs. We covered the whole of it with weed-stop cloth and 15 cubic feet of rocks, bordered nicely in red brick, with three solar path lights. Looks soooo much nicer than it used to.
The other project is our ongoing effort with the side yard. It started out an an area of 12' by 20', sloped and nearly impossible to mow. About five years ago, before K was born, I'd been grumbling about this side-yard and what a pain in the ass it was to mow, and
mljm, God bless her, asked me, "How would you like to never mow that area again?"
Duh. So she started terracing. The upper two tiers she finished, then with kids and complications, the lower level never got done. We made good progress this weekend preparing that area. As we get figured out what we want there, we'll start planting. She already put two new roses on the top tier, we'll eventually put impatiens and mexican heather on the second tier. For the bottom tier I want roses, I'm not sure what she wants, but we both agree that phlox will be a wonderful addition down by the edge, hanging over the wall.
All in all, a good weekend.
